How does volumetric weight work?

The cost of an international shipment is related to its weight as well as to the distance covered. It is always the highest value between the volumetric weight and the actual weight that is charged by the transporters. If the actual weight of your shipment is 9kg and the volumetric weight is 15kg, then you will be charged on a 15kg basis. On the other hand, if the actual weight is greater than the volumetric weight, then the actual weight will be charged. It is either the weight of a parcel or the space it occupies on the plane that is charged! The cost of transporting 10kg of feather will not be the same as 10kg of lead despite the same actual weight.

How do I calculate the volumetric weight? 

Volumetric weight = (height x length x width in cm) /5000 

  • For example a 20 kg suitcase with the following dimensions 70/55/35cm

 

Volumetric weight = 70x55x35 / 5000 = 26,95 kg


The weight charged for shipping your suitcase will be 27 kg.
